Portfolio > If I Lift My Eyes To The Horizon, It’s You That I Might Miss

Developed during a January residency in Finland, this work emerges from walking with my eyes lowered — attending to moss, lichen and subtle tracks pressed into snow while vast grey skies stretched overhead. The sculptural forms echo snow-softened rocks encountered along forest paths, some recalling the sleeping trolls of Finnish folklore.
The title holds a double meaning. “You” refers both to the loved ones I was separated from and to the small, often overlooked objects I habitually notice and treasure — stones, feathers, quiet details underfoot. The work reflects a tension between distance and intimacy: the horizon’s pull and the desire to remain close to what anchors us. There is longing here — for light, for warmth, and for home.
