Sculptural Vessels
These works belong to the Scribing Tools series, which explore the idea that traditional narratives need to be retold and reinterpreted for contemporary audiences. These scribing tools provide a link between the story and the written word. They encourage the audience to visualise them in use, in scrawling imagined gestures. The four small vessels are deliberately absurd, with their brushes at the ends of the bowls. They thwart the desire to both hold ink or paint and make a mark at the same time, while the thorned vessel defies being held at all.
They were all hand carved from solid pieces of timber.
