Sea Wrack Vessel IV
Sea Wrack Vessel IV
Hand-built glazed ceramic, timber, found branch
2025

This series of hand-built ceramic vessels continues my interest in the creation of the playful and absurd sculptural object. Each vessel in the series balances upon its timber pedestal, and is in “conversation” with its fellow forms. The vessels are topped with stoppers created from found coral pieces and driftwood, which pull the eye along their graceful yet at times, ungainly lines.
This series was specifically created in response to recent humpback whale-diving expeditions in Tonga. The works seek to encapsulate the feeling of floating in deep waters. Of watching gigantic mothers and their calves make graceful turns and to recognise the feeling of being deeply observed by them, in return.
